National All Styles 2018. Trentham Dojo Representatives: Jonathan and Kristopher Stephens and Cooper Coathup

On the 24th of June 2018, The National All Styles held their Round three Competition which drew on a record number of competitors from many clubs of various styles, and three members of the small town Trentham dojo also joined the line up. Jonathan, Kristopher and Cooper participated in Kata and Kumite events and put in a fantastic effort to make the Trentham dojo and the Junseikan proud.

The Forms event was interesting, and entertaining to say the least, but the boys performed our kata with integrity. Many of the audience recognised the traditional Goju Ryu Kata performed well and applauded sincerely. Even though our kata may not be as fancy as some of the other “performances”, it was a great opportunity for the boys to be able to demonstrate their kata to the best of their ability and enjoy the experience.

Kumite was a more challenging event as the boys had to encounter many others of different skill, technique and size, some much, much bigger than them.  Even though they tried their best took the occasional hit to the face and always punched back!!!!

Kristopher ended up with a 3rd place in a Continuous Sparring event, having won twice out of three matches.

Cooper Coathup has been a member of the Trentham Dojo since it established in October 2015. He has been a dedicated and hard working member, always trying his best and supporting all other members in their karate training. Though unfortunately (for the Trentham Dojo), his family will be making a Sea change and relocating to the coastal Town of Merimbula in New South Wales, departing the charms and icy Winters of Trentham and welcoming the sun and surf instead…

Good Luck to Cooper and the Coathup family and you’re always welcome to visit us at the Trentham Dojo.
