Dear Members and Parents,

‘’Happy Easter to everyone!’’  For those with Greek heritage, I wish you ‘’Kalo Pascha’’ for next week.  I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend.

As I am writing this, I just realised that its April’s Fool Day and Daylight Saving all rolled into one day.  The Daylight saving explains why I am up at 5am.  Being awake so early also gives me a good opportunity to check the entire house to ensure that my kids have not set up any booby traps for me as part of an April’s Fool prank.

It has been a very hectic fortnight for Our Club with grading taking place for close to 100 members at the various dojos.

What I witnessed at the North Balwyn grading session on the 22nd of March was nothing short of inspirational.  Some of the noteworthy moments for me include:

  • Our newest members, Jack, Ivy and Lucas enthusiasm to take part in our grading as normal training even though they are not yet eligible.
  • Griffin’s effort in leading the grading at the front; his sharp execution of all techniques even in a fatigues state and his tremendous flow in sparring.  (I am proud of you, son!).
  • Nathan and Oakleys’ persistence to complete all the 300 squats and push ups with their dodgy knees and feet.
  • Odysseas for completing all 20 Yakutes accurately.
  • Audrey and Finn for paying attention and not giving up for their first official grading.
  • Ryan for continuing with his kata despite a slight memory lapse mid way.
  • Ken for being the anchor at the back of the hall as the only adult participant and pushing Ian hard.
  • Jasper’s incredible stamina and sprinting like an energiser bunny even towards the end of session.
  • Djiselle for trying to perform Saifa under grading conditions.

I would like to thank Sensei Mac, David and Sempai Archie for conducting the grading at North Balwyn.

Grading Results:

We will endeavour to release the grading results in the next fortnight or so, along with the presentation of the Student of the Month for March.

Reminder:

Training continues as normal for school holidays.

I would like parents to encourage their children to make karate training as part of their regular holiday activities.
